The Dangers of Buying Insurance Online

During difficult economic times like these, many consumers have turned to the internet to try to save a few dollars on their insurance.  At FindYourAgency.com, we encourage all of our visitors to research their insurance needs and consider the dangers of purchasing insurance online and the potential benefits of working through an agent.

The first consideration is cost.  Many consumers mistakenly assume that insurance rates online are cheaper than those offered through an agency.  This assumption, while true for many consumer products, does not always ring true for insurance.  While many product's major cost to the company is distrubution, for insurance the distribution is a small cost in comparison to claim payouts.  Additionally many insurance agents are much more knowledgable about the available discounts you may be entitled to.  Also, some online insurance companies have been known to quote inappropriate coverage amounts and use low quotes to draw in customers and raise their rates upon the first renewal.

There are also certain websites that advertise using your information to provide several quotes.  After completing one form on their site your personal information is sold to several insurance agents. The problem with some of these third party lead sites is they are not always very carful about who signs up to purchase their leads.  This means your information could be sold to unscrupulous individuals which could result in increased junk mail or potentially even identity theft.  The obvious risks clearly do not compare to the potential reward of saving a few dollars.

Insurance is a very complicated product.  The implication that it is so easy a caveman could do it is just not true.  While it may be required in many instances, insurance is a very valuable product that can in some cases mean the difference between life and death, and in others between wealth and poverty for yourself and your family.  A licensed sales agent familiar with your particular situation and state laws will be better able to guide you to make the decisions that will protect you.  A website simply cannot do this.

Find a local insurance agent you can trust.  You can still get a great price, you get the benefit of expert advice and can maintain the safety of your family.  You can contact several in your neighborhood that are featured right here on FindYourAgency.com.
